In Chapter 5 we look at the hiring/screening process for selecting officers. Which do you think are the most important traits when considering the hiring of a new officer? Lets look at discretion again - do police have too much or too little? Explain your answer. What is meant by "police subculture?" Police use of force is now and has always been an issue. Under most every jurisdiction I am aware of, police may use what force is reasonable and necessary to accomplish their task - what ever the task is. So in your opinion - what would "reasonable and necessary" mean? If you are interested, you may find the majority of force issues in Chapter 9 of the Texas Penal Code. There are other sections that come into play as well, but Chapter 9 is Use of Force.
