the length of a rectangle is 4 times the width. if the length is decreased by 5cm and the width is increased by 2cm, the perimeter will be 74. Find the dimensions of the original rectangle.

w=6, L=24

Explanation:

let the width be x,

then, L=4x

Perimeter=2(l+w)

=2(4x+x)

the new dimensions,

perimeter=2(l+w)

74 =2(4x+5+x+2)

=2(5x+7)

=10x+14

10x=74-14

10x=60

x=60/10

x=6

Therefore, The width is 6 cm

L=4x

=4(6)

=24

Therefore the length is 24 cm
