So first solve the equation given

X+2y=-14

-x -x

2y=-x-14

y=- 1/2x-7

this would be your parallel line equation because y=-1/2x-7

Parallel lines have the same slope

Perpendicular lines have a negative reciprocal slope (so -2 would be positive 1/2)
