your Dad needed to get two matching gifts for his nephews, so he went to the store with $75 cash in his wallet. After buying the two gifts, now he has just $17 left over. How much did each gift cost?

Explanation:

Since the gifts are matching, the cost of each gift be equal, say $x
Now, Total cash - cash leftover = cost of both gifts
which is, 75 - 17 = 2x
or $58 = 2x
Thus, x would be 58/2 = $29
