Combine like terms to simplify this expression 8x+2y-3x+5y

Answer is 5x+7y. 8x and -3x have the same variable x, so they are like terms. That goes the same for the y terms. 8x-3x is 5x. 2y + 5y is 7y. You can’t add with different variables so 5x+7y is as simplified as it can get.
