The famous artist who oversaw the work on the Parthenon's frieze was Phidias. He was a ancient Greek sculptor, painter and architect who lived around 480–430 BCE. He is considered one of the greatest of all ancient Greek sculptors.
Phidias oversaw the design and construction of the Parthenon's frieze, which is a continuous band of sculptured figures and ornamentation that runs along the exterior of the temple above the columns. He also created the statue of Athena Parthenos, which stood inside the Parthenon and was one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture. This statue is believed to have been made of ivory and gold.
Phidias made many other contributions to ancient Greek art and architecture, including designing the statue of Zeus at Olympia, which was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. He was also responsible for creating a number of other sculptures that decorated the Parthenon and other temples on the Acropolis.
