Martin Luther King developed 'creative tension' in response to the all-consuming oppression of Jim Crow segregation. Dr. King defined 'creative tension' as a constructive, non-violent and disruptive means of creating a crisis or fostering tension. Its purpose is to create so much tension, it requires both change and redress.
