Why did the US drop a nuclear bomb on Japan?

Japan attacked pearl harbor and in response the United States sent the first nuclear bomb ever made called "Little Boy" which almost blew Hiroshima off the map Japan did not surrender so the United States sent another nuclear bomb called "fat man" which exploded Nagasaki Japan which yet again nearly blew it off the map but this time Japan finally surrendered.
