Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was first celebrated in 1986, three years after it was signed into law. However, it was not until 2000 that all 50 states began to officially observe the holiday. How many years has it been since MLK Day first signed into law??

The law is was signed in 1983, it is now 2023, if you do 2023 - 1983 you will get 40, so it has been 40 years since the law has been signed.
