Settlement brought the homesteader

Endless miles of land to claim

Till the soil and build a life

Tensions rose as they took the land

Lives were lost in the clash of cultures

Efforts made to assimilate

Many forced onto reservations

Endless struggles for survival

New paths opened by the transcontinental railroad

Transportation and communication improved with subsidy

Making the West a melting pot of cultures
