The density of titanium is 4.54 g/mL. The water level in a graduated cylinder initially at 25.0 mL rises to 31.0 mL after a piece of titanium is submerged. What is the mass, in grams, of the titanium?

mass can be calculated using the formula:
m=DV

  • m = mass
  • D = density of a substance
  • V = volume of water displaced (final amount - initial amount)


m=((4.54g)/(1mL))(6.0mL)


m = 27g
