Søren Kierkegaard defined religion as a relationship not merely between man and man but also between man and some higher power. He believed that true religious faith was a subjective, personal experience, rather than something that could be objectively proven or disproved. He considered that a true religious faith is always a leap of faith, a choice which defines the individual in relation to God and the world.
