It will either invert the graph or stretch/compress the horizontal

Explanation:

When a is negative It will invert the graph, and reflect it over the x-axis

By plugging in a=1 you get a normal absolute value function of x ( a V on the graph)

If a>1 then your graph will compress

If a<1 then your graph will stretch
