During the cell cycle, specifically G1 interphase, a cell must reach a sufficient size and produce enough ATP in order to produce two daughter cells. The energy inherent in ATP molecules are needed to accomplish this stage of the cell division. This replication is neccessary for the advancement of the cell division.

Answer: During the cell cycle, specifically G1 interphase, a cell must reach a sufficient size and produce enough ATP in order to make two copies of its chromosomes ( replicate its chromosomes).

Cell cycle is broadly divided into two phases- Interphase and M phase. Interphase is further divided into G1, S, and G2 phase. M phase is divided into Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase.

Most of the time is spent in the G1 phase of the interphase as the cell prepares itself for division by growth and ATP production. G1 phase is then followed by S ( synthesis) phase in which replication of chromosomes take place.

The ATP is therefore utilized by the cell for the replicaton of its chromosome.
