we have 12 as a common value of both sides; so only check 1/4 and 1/3; 1/4 is smaller than 1/3, obviously (1 part divided into 4 parts vs. 1 part divided into 3 parts); when multiplied, it does not reverse the value
therefore, 1/4 of 12 < 1/3 of 12

Explain how to find which is greater: 1/4 of 12 or 1/3 of 12.
