a.

Distance = √((x_2 - x_1)^2+(y_2 - y_1)^2)\\\\ = √(\left( -4 - \left( -5 \right) \right)^2 + \left( -2 - \left( -3 \right) \right)^2) \\ \\ = √( 1 + 1) \\ \\ = √( 2 )

b.

Distance = √((x_2 - x_1)^2+(y_2 - y_1)^2)\\\\ = \sqrt{\left( -4 - ( 7 )/( 2 ) \right)^2 + \left( ( 5 )/( 2 ) - 1 \right)^2} \\ \\= \sqrt{ ( 225 )/( 4 ) + ( 9 )/( 4 )} \\ \\= 3 (√( 26 ))/( 2 )
