two data sets have the same mean. can you assume that the ranges of the two data sets are about the same? give an example to justify your answer.

No, you can't. Here's two different data sets with a mean of 123:

{3, 33, 333}

{122, 123, 124}

The range of the first set is 330, and the range of the second set is 2. These are very different ranges, so you can't assume that the ranges of the two data sets are about the same.
