Why did most of the immigrants who came to America in the late 19th century settle in the cities?

That was where they could find jobs. Factory managers would wait for immigrants at the harbors to offer them low-paying jobs since they were cheap labor. Since most factories were in cities, that is where they settled. Also, they tried to settle in ethnic neighborhoods, which were also located in cities.
