The ventral body cavity refers to the hollow space located on the front part of the human body.

Two different body cavities join up to form the ventral body cavity. These are the thoracic cavity which is basically in the chest region, and the abdominopelvic cavity in the abdominal and pelvic regions.

The upper part of the ventral body cavity, the thoracic cavity is surrounded by ribs and houses the lungs and heart. These two organs are each covered by a membranous sac
