A. The Middle colonies had a policy of religious toleration

While New England was heavily Puritan, the middle colonies granted much religious freedom to its citizens. For example, Pennsylvania, founded by the Quaker William Penn, opened its territory up to a wide range of religious groups including Quakers, Mennonites, Moravians, Lutherans, Jews, and many others.
