What were the reasons why the Spanish colonists settled in America?

Spain first ventured into the Americas because they were trying to find an easier route to Asia. Later on Columbus discovered the West Indies islands which led to later expeditions resulting in moving into modern-day South America, Mexico, and Florida. They then settled here because of the rich resources found: some
Gold but mostly Native american slaves.
