VERY, VERY EASY! This kind of is a homework question since I'm writing an essay right now.

Ok, so What is better?
1. The soldiers on opposite sides were FIRING guns at each other
2. The soldiers on opposite sides were SHOOTING each other.
3. Or something else.
I want to write 1 the most but does it make sense?

Another: "The opposing sides lit up the air with speeding bullets as... ( whatever was happening)" Try to describe the scenes/actions and use figurative language.
