The problems that Anson Jones saw with the annexation of Texas was that Mexico did not recognize Texas’ independence and that means they were still at war with Mexico. If the United States were to annex Texas, they too would be drawn to the war. He feared that if this were to happen, Britain might also get involve and worse, side with Mexico. Apart from that, there was strong opposition from the northern politicians because they feared that if Texas were admitted into the U.S., it would become another slave state.
