The army Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) is a Federal program run by the army with the aim of developing junior leaders, promoting the value of citizenship, service to the United States government and people, developing personal responsibility and forming a reserve force that can feed into the United States armed forces during a time of war. If cadets stayed in the JROTC program for three to four years, it gained them access to advanced programs if they chose to join the armed forces. The JROTC was formed in 1916 when America joined World War I on the side of the Allies.
