Not only is green algae a primary food producer, but it is also a producer of oxygen. True false? Explain please

It is true green algae is one of only a select amount of sea creatures that is able to convert carbon dioxide into oxygen. That is why we have so much algae and why it's important to our everyday survival because it accounts for about 3-7% of all oxygen produced.
