The Hellenistic Period in Ancient Greek history, and really the history of the wider Mediterranean Basin and beyond, followed the reign of Alexander the Great. His was a huge and far-reaching empire, and after his death, it was too unwieldy to remain in tact and split into the different Hellenistic dynasties.
