Increase: Atoms separate into more space. (When induced with heat)

Decreases: They get closer together. (When head is released)

As temperature increases, atoms begin to move faster and farther away from the point where they started. They begin to move more and in a larger area. Because of this, the volume of the gas in the balloon will increase as well. It will take up more space and will therefore increase in volume.
