Britain and France agreed to Hitler’s demands and signed the Munich Agreement because both countries were still recovering from the First World War and they want to present another. Many conservatives in government viewed Communist Russia as a bigger threat and believed that if they were to sacrifice Czechoslovakia, Germany would act as a safeguard against the Russians. Both countries were still weak and did not have the means to stop Hitler. Despite agreeing to the terms, it only emboldened the Germans to take more territory both in the east and the west. Eventually France fell and Britain declared war on Germany.
