the solution of a y=mx+b system of equations is always where the lines intersect, in this instance it is at x=1 y=-3. so your answer is 1. additionally if your lines never intersect i.e. are parallel then there is no solution. similarly if the equations yield the same line then they have an infinite number of real number solutions in which case for your answer you would put this symbol --->
