How did European influence change Asian trade relations?

One of the major ways in which European influence changed Asian trade relations is that Europeans, through events like the Opium Wars, "forced" Asia to trade with Europe, and opened up new trade routes that were advantageous for many European countries, in which Asian products such as silk were in high demand.
