The Mayan calender is numbered by the Mayan numerical system, which has a base-20 system; every unit in a given position is 20 times the unit that preceded it. An exception to this rule was for the second-order value, which used 18x 20 to equal 360 days, which was roughly equal to an entire year for our Gregorian calender.
