In his essay "Why i write?" Orwell explains 4 reasons why he, similarly to other authors chooses to write. He tells that the reasons are that he wants to seem clever to others; he feels the need to be political; he feels the historical impulse and wants to present things factually as they are; and wants to enjoy how his pleasuring writing influences other people.
