The path in the sky in which the sun appears to travel in the course
of a year is called the ecliptic.

It was thought (and still is by some) that there is something more
important about the constellations along this path, compared to
the constellations that the mighty sun never enters. These are the
constellations of the Zodiac, on which so much of astrology is based.
