A school is building a rectangular soccer field that has an area of 6000 square yards. The soccer

field must be 40 yards longer than its width. Determine algebraically the dimensions of the
soccer field, in yards.

area is lw
l=40+w
wL= 40w+w^2
40w+w^2=6000
w=60 and w=-100 are the answers and since distance cannot be negative you are left with w=60
the field is 60 * 100 yards
