In King Arthur's Knights, of whom is King Arthur speaking when he says, "'I see well,' said the king, 'that the death of these twain knights will cause the deadliest war that hath ever raged."

King Arthur speaks of Sir Gareth and Sir Gaheris, brothers of Sir Gawain. Sir Lancelot had killed them and thirty other knights in an attempt to rescue Guinevere. Gawain has vowed to kill Lancelot in vengeance for his brothers' deaths, and the fighting shall not stop until either is dead.
