Chromosomes are attached to the spindle fibers during metaphase. The spindle fibers are structures important for equal division of chromosomes during cell division. They form in the metaphase when homologous pairs of chromosomes are lined up along the centre of the cell. At this phase, chromosomes are attached to the spindle fibers.
