Lets look at the information we have:-

6 times as many dogs as cats.
48 dogs in the pet store

Now we will divide to see how many cats there are in the store.

48 ÷ 6 = 8
8 cats in the pet store

CHECK OUR WORK:-

8 × 6 = 48
We were RIGHT!!!

So, 8 cats in the pet store.

Hope i helped ya!!

Thank you for editing your question. The answer is that since there are x cats and 6x dogs, there are 6x = 48 dogs. Dividing each side by 6, we get that x = 8, which is the number of cats. There are 8 cats at the pet store.
