The Destroyers for Bases agreement was signed in 1940 between UK and US.

US navy destroyers, some type of war vessels, were transferred to the UK in exchange for rights that the US earned over some UK territorial possesions. The UK aimed to gather strong weapons to confront Nazi Germany, as WWII had already started in 1939.

The Destroyers for Bases agreement of 1940 greatly helped Britain because Britain was in desperate need of more ships with which to engage Germany.
