It uses drugs. These drugs work by destroying or slowing down the growth of cancer cells. But it also destroys some healthy cells that help the growth of hair or the lining of lips. So it causes side effects, although these side effects go away when chemotherapy is over. When the chemotherapy completely destroys the cancer cells, so they can't divide, they can't grow.
