One- sixth of the dairy cattle on a farm are in the barn. One- fourth of the beef cattle are in the barn. There are 12 dairy cattle and 16 beef cattle in the barn. How many more dairy cattle are on the farm than beef cattle

x = dairy cattle
y = beef cattle

1/6 x = 12
x = 72

1/4 y = 16
y = 64

so x-y = 72-64 = 8

There are 8 more dairy cattle on the farm than beef cattle.
