who were the german social democrats and what is the significance of november 11, 1918, in relation to the group ?

The German Social Democrats or SPD believed in reforming the German government to a parliamentary system.  In order to do this, they had to overthrow the German Imperial government and install a Republic.  They did this in what we now call the November Revolution which lasted, almost a year, until August 1919.
