C. THE RULE OF MEHMED II STRENGTHENED THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE'S CONTROL OF THE MIDDLE EAST, WHEREAS THE RULE OF SELIM II WEAKENED THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE'S CONTROL OF THE MIDDLE EAST.

Mehmed II was the great great grandfather of Selim II. He was also known as Mehmed the Conqueror for he conquered Constantinople and brought the end to the Byzantine Empire. Under his rule, the Ottoman empire expanded which included Constantinople, Turkish kingdoms and territories in Asia Minor, Bosnia, Kingdom of Serbia, and Albania.

Under the rule of Selim II, the Ottoman empire stagnated and eventually declined. It was said that Selim II was more interested in pursuing his personal desires instead of leading as the empire's revered Sultan.
