A static character is one that does not undergo any important
change in the course of the story. She remains essentially the
same all the way through it. On the other hand, a dynamic character
is one that does undergo an important change during the story.
Watch the movie, and you'll see that Mary's character is depicted
and described in radically different ways at different points. It's
enough to break your heart.
