During the winter of 2009, you contracted the influenza A (H1N1) virus, or swine flu. Which type of cell would recognize the virus, and what would be the cell's response?

S-IgA and IgG antibodies and cytotoxic T lymphocytes would recognize the virus and protect the body from re-infection. IgGs from the serum will move into the mucosa to be distributed on the alveolar epithelium and helps in preventing influenza pneumonia.

Answer:

The correct answer would be memory B cells.

Memory B cells are the type of B cells which are formed after the primary infection.

These are important as they help in producing the more intense and accelerated immune response during secondary infection or when the same antigen or infectious agent enters the body.

They do so by producing the polyclonal response, that is, the same epitope is attacked by multiple copies of B cells.
