Taiwan have to enter athletes into the Olympic games under the title "Chinese Taipei" because not all countries recognize Taiwan as a sovereign nation of China. In 1976, Taiwan bearing the name "Republic of China" or ROC was not permitted to participate in the Montreal Games because Canada, the host country, recognized the PRC or People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate government of "China".It was only in 1984 where Taiwan competed for the first time using the name "Chinese Taipei" at the Saravejo Winter Games
