Antibiotics. The literal meaning of the name is "opposing life". The first antibiotic (Penicillin) was identified by Alexander Fleming in 1928 and revolutionized medicine in the 20th century. Antibiotics are loosing their effectiveness because of drug-resistance which is increasing because of overuse.
