The British attempt to cut New England off from the rest of the colonies failed when Burgoyne surrendered his army at Saratoga is a) True. Burgoyne's troops were surrounded by American forces in Upstate New York whilst heading north from New York City, as he was expecting a Southern reinforcement to arrive which never came.
