there are 26 third graders and 32 fourth graders going on a field trip. each van can carry 10 students how many vans are needed

You first add 26 and 32 and you get 58. So, that means that 58 student are going to the field trip. Then you divide 58 and 10 and you get 5 but reminder 8. So their going to need 8 vans.

First add how many kids total going on the field trip. 32+26=58
Each van carries 10 students so you can do 10+10+10+10+10=50+8 students left over. So you have 5 vans with 10 students in each plus 1 more van with 8 students so you would need 6 total vans. Hope this helps :)
