The harbors on Italy's western coast made it easy to trade with other countries. How did trade with other Mediterranean people help the early Romans?

This enabled the early Romans to establish connections with nations that they would otherwise not have. Through this, they potnetially had an established connection with a foregin civilization that would otherwise be an enemy. Not only this - through trade with foreign nations they also were more informed about the world situation and had access to different exotic goods.
