To make it to 7 you have to convert mixed fraction to improper fraction and then to decimal..
3 7/8 = 45 / 8 = 5.625
after this you can subtract 7 from 5.625
i.e. 7 - 5.625 = 1.375
So if you add 1.375 with 5.625 you will get 7
i.e.
1.375 + 5.625 = 7

=
31/8
7 - 3 7/8
= 7 - 31/8 = 56/8 - 31/8 =
25/8
=
3 1/8
The correct result is
3 1/8
or
25/8
.
